DILEMMA
Dilemma
We find ourselves within the walls of a psychiatric institution. Furnishings and objects transform imperceptibly in the hands of the mad; someone tosses a ball or plays the violin—is that endless bedsheet a labyrinth, or perhaps a projection screen? We step upon one another’s shoulders as planets swirl around us. Are we interpreting the theories of philosophers and physicists, or witnessing testimony regarding a murder? We explore these questions—drawing inspiration from Dürrenmatt’s timeless masterpiece *The Physicists*—by blending the languages of theatre and contemporary circus. Is what we are exploring a tragicomic, grotesque absurdity, a surreal vision, or reality itself? We invite our audience to a theatrical experience that is at once chilling and lyrical, humorous and thought-provoking.
"The Simorág Dance-Circus performance serves as a clever nudge, urging us to urgently reflect on our shared concerns, to spare neither time nor effort in staying informed, and to be discerning about which sources of information we trust. Scientists and experts continue to draw attention to the dangers threatening our entire known world—such as here and here—while art, and theater in particular, can help make us receptive to these issues, encouraging us to pull our heads out of the sand, think, and act before it is too late."
